ASSESSING THE ROLE OF THE MID-DAY MEAL SCHEME IN STRENGTHENING SCHOOL EDUCATION IN INDIA: A SOCIO-ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE
Author: Sunita Chakraborty

Abstract
The present study attempts to examine the impact of Mid-Day Meal scheme on the development of educational system in the elementary (I-VIII) level in India at both aggregated and disaggregated level during 2011-15. The study chooses three indicators to assess the performance of the educational system in India at elementary level which are- level wise enrolment of school children, drop-out rate of the school children at the elementary level, learning achievement of the school children and lastly gender parity index in India for the years 2011-15. EXAMINING THE REPRESENTATION OF DRUG ADDICTS THROUGH A SOCIO-LEGAL LENS
Author: Anup Bhilare

Abstract
For many decades we have been persuaded to believe that addiction is a blame-worthy attitude and that addicts deserve condemnation in civil society. This ethos of the drug addict created a pathos of disgust and intolerance and has made the government and public to accept the logos of repressive laws for control of drug addicts and addiction. In the light of agenda 2030, when the world aims at leaving no one behind, now it is important, more than ever, to rethink the viability of current narrative and facilitate the social inclusion of drug addicts. This paper aims at highlighting the stigmatisation of the drug addicts that takes place at the hands of the media, society, legal system and how the understanding of addiction as a psychological condition would help to reduce the stigma and pave the way for inclusion and equitable treatment for the drug addicts.

ROLE OF VALUE EDUCATION IN DEVELOPING SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL COMPETENCIES AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Author: Md. Aftab Alam

ABSTRACT
Value education has re-emerged as a cornerstone of holistic schooling, with contemporary educational frameworks increasingly recognising the need to integrate ethical, emotional and social dimensions alongside academic learning. Despite growing policy emphasis, rigorous empirical evidence on the relationship between value education and social-emotional competencies (SEC) among secondary school students in Bihar remains sparse. The present study examined the role of value education in developing social-emotional competencies among secondary school students of Muzaffarpur District. A descriptive survey design was adopted and a stratified random sample of 240 secondary school students (N = 240; 120 male, 120 female; 120 from government schools, 120 from private schools) was drawn from Class IX and X students across twelve schools of Muzaffarpur District during the academic session 2017–18. Two standardised instruments were administered: the Value Education Implementation Scale (
